The Office of the Chief Scientific Advisor of the Scottish Government supports the Festival of the Sea through a Science Engagement Grant and science festival funding. Highlands and Islands Enterprise administer this grant scheme for our region.
The Scottish Association for Marine Science is based at the Scottish Marine Institute near Oban and has been developing the ideas for the Festival of the Sea. SAMS staff also organise the Festival. SAMS further supports the Festival of the Sea by funding staff time of its contributing scientists, event advertising and providing free events.
SAMS delivers world-class marine science that supports society with innovative solutions to developing a sustainable relationship with the marine environment through research, education, services to business, and public engagement initiatives.
