Seaweed farm boat trip
SATURDAY 28th MAY departing between 0930 and 1530 from Oban's North Pier
Visit the first experimental seaweed farm in the UK - set up by scientists from the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) in the Sound of Kerrera. Here scientists develop cultivation techniques to form various species of seaweed and explore the impacts between such farms and the environment. Seaweed farming is a multi-billion dollar industry in the far east and there is substantial potential for a new industry to develop on the west coast of Scotland. See first hand what is involved in seaweed farming and find out what the scientists are up to!
Last year we had to turn more people away than we could accommodate, so please book early to avoid disappointment. We strongly suggest you book your seats soon. If spaces remain unclaimed, we will allocate them on a first come first served basis. Reservations need to be made by Friday 27th May at 5pm. If those booked onto a tour are delayed, we will not be able to wait and places will be re-allocated.
There is no charge as the boat hire is funded by the Royal Society of Biology. We do, however, levy a £1 charge per passenger to cover mooring / landing fees.
