Festival of Sea: Why we are holding it

The climate, geography, history, heritage and employment of Oban, Lorn and the Isles are defined by the sea.

This festival aims to recognise this relationship in celebration and with pride.

Specific festival objectives

  1. To increase awareness of the importance of healthy seas for human wellbeing
  2. To engender pride and stewardship towards the local marine environment
  3. To excite young audiences about careers based around the sea and in science
  4. To provide a discussion forum on the future of the marine environment
  5. To engage people with marine science
  6. To raise public awareness of the Oban area as a destination for marine research and education, seafood and marine tourism
  7. To promote healthy living options provided by seafood and marine sports
